I've checked the code and found that the slow process was caused by some unnecessary loops. I replaced them, and now it is fast again.

Saving and loading is possible now, plus there is a bit of finances in the game now.

I've made my first sprite!
It's only a little lightning striking, and still it gives the feeling of a real game.
When you start the game, first you have to plant a tree (after creating the terrain and the species of course), only then are you allowed to use lightnings. For a faster checking you can also load a saved game (birch-beech_turn10.gam and birch-beech_turn20.gam), then click somewhere on the map to place your seedling (not the sea), and then choose "lightning" from the action list. Any click on the map will cause a lightning strike. (The obligation to plant a tree in case of loaded games is a bug yet.)
This is only the beginning, normally, lightnings will cost you 1 MPU, and they may result in forest fires...
The two saved games demonstrate how the contest of a fast spreading and a slow spreading tree species proceeds. Birch starts very fast, and conquers a great part of the map by turn 10. When however birch and beech encounter, beech slowly but surely wins.
Well, provided if there are no divine interventions! Birch will gather a lot of money by then, and so its creator will be able to use a lot of wonders against beech. And hopefully this is the point at which the game is getting really interesting...

Time is flying... or am I so slow?
Anyhow, I have worked a bit on the game.
The fire sprites and the whole fire process are ready, so if you use a lightning, sooner or later you will cause a forest-fire.
For the testing, I've created a new species ("firestest.spc") which is able to make dense forests in warm and dry places (southeastern part of the map). I have also saved a game ("firetest.gam") with a proper forest, so you can test your lightnings really fast. When you load it, first change the view in the right map from "seedl"(ings) to "overst"(orey), so you will see the effect of the fire on the forest density.
Lightnings cost you 1 MPU, which is rather c_h_e_a_p, considering the amount of money you can gather, so maybe I will change the proprtions later.
